Introducing Rules
What are Rules?
Rules let you automate repetitive tasks when it comes to organising your transactions.
For example, if you always mark payments to the ’The Smith Family’ as a tax deduction, you can create a rule to handle this for you automatically, both in the past and in the future.
Or you might create a rule to re-categorise a transaction that isn’t categorised quite right because it’s from a merchant with a unique name.
This feature helps you make Gather work for you – not the other way around.
Why We Built This
Most personal finance tools ignore one key fact – that each person looks after their money their own way. And so they try to force you into a rigid mould, a one-size-fits-all box.
Not us. At Gather, one of our founding beliefs is that the shape of each person’s money is unique.
We made Rules because while we offer a good default categorisation service to help you see where your money is going, we know we won't always get it exactly right for everyone.
There’s a lot more we’re exploring around this thread of helping you do money your own way. Stay tuned for that.
How to Use Rules
Open the Gather app.
Go to Activity and tap the ⚡ icon in the top right.
Create a rule to organise your transactions.
Once set, Gather will automatically adjust your transactions as they happen, working quietly in the background so you don’t have to.
